How to: Attach Files to Work Items

You can attach any kind of file to a work item. You might want to attach a screen capture that illustrates a problem, a line of code in a text file, or a product feature's specification.

Alternatively, adding a hyperlink might be more appropriate. For example, many specification and presentation files are now accessed from group Web sites. For more information, see How to: Add Hyperlinks to Work Items.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Contributors group or have the View work items in this node, and Edit work items in this node permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To attach files to work items

  1. Add a new work item or open an existing one.

  2. On the File Attachments tab, click Add.

  3. In the Add Attachment dialog box, under Attachment, type the path and file name of the file to be attached, or browse to it.

  4. If you want to add information about the attachment, type it under Comment. This is not required to complete the attachment.

  5. Click OK to save the attachment to the Team Foundation Server.
