Performance and exception monitoring with Application Insights
Application Insights is in preview.
Is your application performing well under load? Application Insights will compile graphs of multiple metrics, and alert you if any thresholds are crossed. You can get performance figures from both client and server.
To start using Application Insights, sign up for Visual Studio Online and choose the Application Insights tile.
You can monitor performance in:
A .NET web service. You have to have administrative access to the server machine. You don’t have to alter the code of the web service.
A .NET service running as a web role on Windows Azure Cloud Services. You have to have access to the code. You run the Application Insights tool on your development machine, then rebuild and redeploy the service.
A Java web service. You download the agent to your server machine, update the configuration files, and restart your web service.
Application Insights shows you graphs of responsiveness under load, and a list of any uncaught exceptions, together with other metrics. You can drill into the exception stacks to pinpoint the problem in the code.
You can also see on the same charts when your latest builds were deployed, to help you pinpoint any issues that might have arisen from a recent change.
You can set an alert to let you know as soon as a performance issue occurs.
