Choose Location Dialog Box

The Choose Location dialog box lets you specify the type of Web site that you want to create and its location. You can create a Web site on your file system, on your local computer's Internet Information Services (IIS) or IIS Express Web servers, on an FTP server, or on a remote computer running IIS.

To access this dialog box

  1. In Visual Web Developer, on the File menu, click New Web Site (or on the File menu, click New and then click Web Site).

  2. In the New Web Site dialog box, click Browse.

    The Choose Location dialog box opens.

The Choose Location dialog box has four panels: File System, Local IIS, FTP Site, and Remote Site. Special icons in the upper right corner let you accomplish tasks specific to the panel that you choose.

File System

Lets you create or open a file system Web site.

Local IIS

Lets you create or open a Web site on IIS Express or your local copy of IIS.

FTP Site

Lets you open a Web site running on an FTP server, either locally or on a remote server.

Remote Site

Lets you create or open a Web site on a different computer running IIS.
