NULL Predicate Is Not Working (NULL Predicate in Enterprise Search SQL Syntax)
Unfortunately if you try using any of the above NULL predicates you are going to receive an internal SharePoint Interop COM error: HRESULT 0x80044110, which doesn't really reveal much information. There is a workaround solution though, instead of using (column IS NOT NULL) expression, use the following syntax instead: (column > '')

Customize QL on subpages (How to: Customize the Display of Quick Launch)
I did this to the T on WSS 3.0 and it works perfectly...except on _layout pages like _layouts/viewlsts.aspx and anything in the _layouts directory. The StaticDisplayLevels and MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels values are not located in any other .master page I can find, even including the obvious application.master page. I can't find anything on the web about this. Has anyone found a solution?

RunWithElevatedPrivileges - exception, not the norm (Securing Application Pages in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0)
Let me start by saying that while executing code via RunWithElevatedPrivileges may help you overcome certain “access denied” exceptions in your code, using it should be the exception not the norm.
