Function sets application volume level in Vista and 7 (midiOutSetVolume function (Windows))
This function does not set the MIDI device volume when using a software synthesizer under Windows Vista or Windows 7, but instead alters the application-specific volume level in the system mixer. This means that if your application also outputs digital audio, the volume level of that audio will be reduced or increased by the same amount.

Is it available to basic/boot/system disk (FSCTL_EXTEND_VOLUME control code (Windows))
According to this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc739412%28WS.10%29.aspx partition/volume size modifications are not available to boot/system disks nor to basic disks. But FSCTL_EXTEND_VOLUME (and related IOCTLs) do not mention such a limitation. A clarification would be helpful.

Regarding sound volume. (SndPlayAsync)
If you are using SND_PLAY_IGNOREUSERSETTINGS it will ignore the actual phone volume and the player wont change its volume if the user change the phones volume, instead use 0 flag.

Opening a volume (CreateFile function (Windows))
If you want to open a volume using \\.\X:, you must use FILE_SHARE_WRITE | FILE_SHARE_READ, not just FILE_SHARE_WRITE. If you omit FILE_SHARE_READ, you'll get ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED on most volumes (not all of them, in my case).
