Only the 'End Date' is used to display the item on the calendar. The following tip is based on the poorly explained example found at http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2010/03/01/walkthrough-of-enabling-crud-for-sharepoint-2010-external-lists-using-visual-studio-2010.aspx in which the developer is left to scratch their head in bewilderment trying to figure out why Create and Delete work just fine but Update fails. Content Type Access ControlThere are two approaches you can use to control who can access the content types you create, each with its own advantages.Hidden Content TypesYou can specify that a content type be hidden. Hidden content types are not displayed on the New menu for list views. Therefore, users cannot create new items of that content type from the list. The content type is still displayed

Setting a C# ComboBox to "Limit to List". (ComboBox Class (System.Windows.Forms))
To control the items that can be entered into a databound C# combobox such that only items in the bound list are allowed, set the 'Appearance' property to "DropDownList". The behavior then becomes similar to the MS Access combobox property "LimitToList".

List attribute of Lookup field (Field Element (List - Definition))
When referencing a lookup column from a field you must specify the following attributes:Type="Lookup"List="Lists/[ListName]"ShowField="Title"The List attribute must contain the path to the list. This means it must start with "Lists/" followed by the internal name of the list. The ShowField property must be used to set the field that is displayed from the lookup list.
