Additional constructor (CComPtr::CComPtr)
There turns out to be an additional constructor: CComPtr(int nNull) throw() : CComPtrBase<T>(nNull) { } CComPtrBase asserts that nNull must be NULL. I found out about this the hard way in some refactored code because a HRESULT was converted automagically to a CComPtr. The 'great' thing is that if the returned HRESULT is S_OK, the assert won't complain and only later things will go wrong

Aligned on a DWORD? (SetDIBitsToDevice function (Windows))
I would've appreciated this document more if the author had not talked like this:The scan lines must be aligned on a DWORD except for RLE-compressed bitmaps.Because of this line, I wasted several hours to figure out meaning of it with trials and errors. Simply saying Size of each row in lpvBits (or number of columns x number of channels) should be a multiple of 4would be a lot easier to

I second the useless comment (How to: Hide a Menu Item in the ECB from SharePoint List Items)
This article could be useful, if it provided the details to get the task done. As it is, it really adds no value.

Thanks for nothing (CMFCPropertyGridCtrl::RemoveAll)
Okay. It removes all the properties. I would never have guessed from the function name! (sarcasm intended)More interestingly: Will it generate a window refresh? Will it delete the properties it removes? What are the other side effects, if any? If there are no side effects, is that guaranteedFrom reading the source, it looks like, yes, it does delete the properties as well. That should be documente

When TOP is used in conjunction with the ORDER BY clause, the result set is limited to the first N number of ordered rows; otherwise, it returns the first N number of rows ramdom <if an index has not been choosen>

Lots of features in Visual Studio and Visual Web Developer (Walkthrough: Creating a New ASP.NET Web Site)
Visual Studio and Visual Web Developer Express have lots of features but in general they are very easy to use, as long as you take the time to learn the basics. At a minimum I recommend learning:What the various windows are for How to run your web applicationHow to compile your code Fixing compiler errors How to comment code Using the debugger If you understand and practice these basic concepts, y

Web Dialer Accelerator (OpenService Accelerators Developer Guide (Internet Explorer))
It would be nice if there were a site where people could submit their Accelerators for others to find. I built a web dialer that I think some users would find very useful. http://ocshacks.blogspot.com/2009/08/ie8-accelerator.html

Visual Basic Express 2008 Fails: Windows 7 (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Application Quality Cookbook (Windows))
Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 fails terribly to set registry permissions on installation in the Windows 7 x64 environment. This is a terrible thing for small developers who are planning to switch to Windows 7. Old Vista solutions have been suggested and failed. The 'S' tool also fails and is not designed for Windows 7. Microsoft clearly 'missed a spot' as it was developing Windows 7. DO NOT BU
