PrintDialog.UseEXDialog Property

Updated: July 2010

Gets or sets a value indicating whether the dialog should be shown in the Windows XP style for systems running Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003 or later.

Namespace:  System.Windows.Forms
Assembly:  System.Windows.Forms (in System.Windows.Forms.dll)
public bool UseEXDialog { get; set; }

Property Value

Type: System.Boolean
true to indicate the dialog should be shown with the Windows XP style, otherwise false. The default is false.

When this property is set to true, ShowHelp and ShowNetwork will be ignored as these properties were made obsolete for Windows 2000 and later versions of Windows. Also, The PrintDialog class may not work on AMD64 microprocessors unless you set the UseEXDialog property to true.

Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Starter Edition, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2000 SP4, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 98

The .NET Framework and .NET Compact Framework do not support all versions of every platform. For a list of the supported versions, see .NET Framework System Requirements.

PrintDialog behavior in 64 bit

Is there any way to change the print dialog (using UseEXDialog = true) to behave like the "old" one. The "Ok" button now says "Print" and I really need it to say "Ok" for my app.

Response: Please use the WPF Forum for technical questions.

Windows 7 x64
Running on Windows 7 x64, I also had the problem of the print dialog not showing up and immediately returning Canceled. Setting UseEXDialog = true fixed this.
