MenuItemBinding.Text Property

Gets or sets the text displayed for the menu item to which the MenuItemBinding object is applied.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly: System.Web (in system.web.dll)

[LocalizableAttribute(true)]
public string Text { get; set; }
/** @property */
public String get_Text ()

/** @property */
public void set_Text (String value)

public function get Text () : String

public function set Text (value : String)

Not applicable.

Property Value

The text displayed for the menu item to which the MenuItemBinding is applied. The default is an empty string (""), which indicates that this property is not set.

When the Menu control is bound to a data source, use the Text property to specify the text to bind to the MenuItem.Text property of a MenuItem object. This text is displayed in a menu item and is shared with all menu items to which the MenuItemBinding object is applied.

NoteNote:

You can override the text for an individual menu item by setting its Text property directly.

Instead of using this property to display the same text in each menu item, you can also bind the Text property of a MenuItem object to a field of a data source by setting the TextField property. When rendered, the Text property of each menu item to which the MenuItemBinding object is applied contains the corresponding value from the field.

NoteNote:

If the Text and TextField properties are both set, the TextField property takes precedence.

You cannot create empty nodes in a Menu control by setting the Text or TextField properties to the empty string (""). Setting these properties to the empty string has the same effect as not setting the properties. In that case, the Menu control creates a default binding using the DataSource property. For more information, see Accessing Data with ASP.NET.

The value of this property, when set, can be saved automatically to a resource file by using a designer tool. For more information, see LocalizableAttribute and ASP.NET Globalization and Localization.

The following code example demonstrates how to use the Text property to specify the text to display in a menu item. This text is displayed in each menu item to which the MenuItemBinding object is applied. For this example to work correctly, you must copy the sample XML data below to a file named Menu.xml.
