DataList.InitializeItem Method

Initializes a DataListItem object based on the specified templates and styles for the list-item type.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly: System.Web (in system.web.dll)

protected virtual void InitializeItem (
	DataListItem item
)
protected void InitializeItem (
	DataListItem item
)
protected function InitializeItem (
	item : DataListItem
)

Parameters

item

The DataListItem to initialize.

The InitializeItem method is used primarily by control developers for extending the DataList control.

The CreateControlHierarchy method uses the CreateItem and InitializeItem methods to create DataListItem controls that represent the header, footer, separator, and databound items contained in the data list. You can access the databound items for the data list through the Items collection. You can access all item types, including the header, footer, and separator items, through the Controls collection.

Override the CreateControlHierarchy method to customize how DataListItem controls are created or added to the DataList control. Override the InitializeItem method to customize templates for a DataListItem control.
