HttpApplicationStateBase Class

Serves as the base class for classes that enable information to be shared across multiple sessions and requests within an ASP.NET application.

Namespace:  System.Web
Assembly:  System.Web (in System.Web.dll)
public abstract class HttpApplicationStateBase : NameObjectCollectionBase,
	ICollection, IEnumerable

The HttpApplicationStateBase type exposes the following members.

  NameDescription
Protected methodHttpApplicationStateBaseInitializes the class for use by an inherited class instance. This constructor can only be called by an inherited class.

  NameDescription
Public propertyAllKeysWhen overridden in a derived class, gets the access keys for the objects in the collection.
Public propertyContentsWhen overridden in a derived class, gets a reference to the HttpApplicationStateBase object.
Public propertyCountWhen overridden in a derived class, gets the number of objects in the collection. (Overrides NameObjectCollectionBase.Count.)
Protected propertyIsReadOnlyGets or sets a value indicating whether the NameObjectCollectionBase instance is read-only. (Inherited from NameObjectCollectionBase.)
Public propertyIsSynchronizedWhen overridden in a derived class, gets a value that indicates whether access to the collection is thread-safe.
Public propertyItem[Int32]When overridden in a derived class, gets a state object by index.
Public propertyItem[String]When overridden in a derived class, gets a state object by name.
Public propertyKeysGets a NameObjectCollectionBase.KeysCollection instance that contains all the keys in the NameObjectCollectionBase instance. (Inherited from NameObjectCollectionBase.)
Public propertyStaticObjectsWhen overridden in a derived class, gets all objects that are declared by an object element where the scope is set to "Application" in the ASP.NET application.
Public propertySyncRootWhen overridden in a derived class, gets an object that can be used to synchronize access to the collection.

The HttpApplicationStateBase class is an abstract class that contains the same members as the HttpApplicationState class. The HttpApplicationStateBase class lets you create derived classes that are like the HttpApplicationState class, but that you can customize and that work outside the ASP.NET pipeline. When you perform unit testing, you typically use a derived class to implement members with customized behavior that fulfills the scenario you are testing.

The HttpApplicationStateWrapper class derives from the HttpApplicationStateBase class. The HttpApplicationStateWrapper class serves as a wrapper for the HttpApplicationState class. At run time, you typically use an instance of the HttpApplicationStateWrapper class to call members of the HttpApplicationState object.

.NET Framework

Supported in: 4, 3.5 SP1

Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1 or later, Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2008 (Server Core not supported), Windows Server 2008 R2 (Server Core supported with SP1 or later), Windows Server 2003 SP2

The .NET Framework does not support all versions of every platform. For a list of the supported versions, see .NET Framework System Requirements.
Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.
