PerformanceCounter.MachineName Property

Gets or sets the computer name for this performance counter

Namespace:  System.Diagnostics
Assembly:  System (in System.dll)
[BrowsableAttribute(false)]
public string MachineName { get; set; }

Property Value

Type: System.String
The server on which the performance counter and its associated category reside.
ExceptionCondition
ArgumentException

The MachineName format is invalid.

PlatformNotSupportedException

The platform is Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), which does not support performance counters.

You can write values only to counters that reside on the local computer. However, you can read counter values from any computer in the enterprise for which you have access privileges.

When you set the MachineName property to point to a remote computer, the PerformanceCounter instance attempts to open the counter on that computer. If the counter does not exist, setting this property throws an exception.

The .NET Framework and .NET Compact Framework do not support all versions of every platform. For a list of the supported versions, see .NET Framework System Requirements.
