OracleParameter.DbType Property

Gets or sets the DbType of the parameter.

Namespace: System.Data.OracleClient
Assembly: System.Data.OracleClient (in system.data.oracleclient.dll)

public override DbType DbType { get; set;
/** @property */
public DbType get_DbType ()

/** @property */
public void set_DbType (DbType value)

public override function get DbType () : DbType

public override function set DbType (value : DbType)

Property Value

One of the DbType values. The default is AnsiString.

Exception typeCondition

ArgumentOutOfRangeException

The property was not set to a valid DbType.

The OracleType and DbType are linked. Therefore, setting the DbType changes the OracleType to a supporting OracleType.

The DbType, OracleType, and .Data.OracleClient.OracleParameter.Size properties of a parameter can be inferred by setting .Data.OracleClient.OracleParameter.Value. Therefore, you are not required to specify them. However, they are not exposed in OracleParameter property settings. For example, if the size of the parameter has been inferred, .Data.OracleClient.OracleParameter.Size does not contain inferred value after statement execution. For String data types the default is AnsiString.

For a list of the supported data types, see the appropriate OracleType member. For more information, see Using Parameters with a DataAdapter.

The following example creates an OracleParameter and sets some of its properties.

public void CreateOracleDbParameter()
 {
    OracleParameter parameter = new OracleParameter();
    parameter.ParameterName = "pDName";
    parameter.DbType = DbType.String;
    parameter.Value = "ENGINEERING";
    parameter.SourceColumn = "DName";
