OracleConnection.State Property

Gets the current state of the connection.

Namespace: System.Data.OracleClient
Assembly: System.Data.OracleClient (in system.data.oracleclient.dll)

public override ConnectionState State { get;
/** @property */
public ConnectionState get_State ()

public override function get State () : ConnectionState

Property Value

A bitwise combination of the ConnectionState values. The default is Closed.

The allowed state changes are:

  • From Closed to Open, using the Open method of the OracleConnection object.

  • From Open to Closed, using the Close method of the OracleConnection object.

The following example creates an instance of a derived class, OracleConnection, sets its ConnectionString, and displays its State.

public void createOracleConnection()
{
    using (OracleConnection connection = new OracleConnection())
    {
        connection.ConnectionString = "Data Source=Oracle8i;Integrated Security=yes";
        connection.Open();
        Console.WriteLine("Connection State: " + connection.State);
