The Pen as a Pointing and Input Device

The Pen as a Pointing and Input Device

Overview of the pen as a pointing and input device.

Users do not only use an external keyboard and mouse with your application, they also use Tablet PC Input Panel to enter text and use the tablet pen to point. Although Input Panel is a slower input device than a keyboard for many users, you can augment Input Panel to be a more powerful input mechanism.

Most pointers, such as a mouse, are relative because users do not touch the screen with the pointer. But the tablet pen is an absolute pointer that touches the screen itself. Users must move their entire arm, not just their fingers or wrist, to move across the screen. This makes it more important to physically group related controls on a Tablet PC than on other portable computers.
