Click-To-Record Feature

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 includes a feature called click-to-record that enables applications to programmatically schedule the recording of TV programs. Click-to-record can be invoked in the following ways:

  • By a hosted HTML application or add-in running inside the Media Center shell.
  • By an external application using the managed click-to-record application programming interface (API).
  • By the user launching a click-to-record document from the Windows shell.

Each method of invoking click-to-record involves passing Extensible Markup Language (XML) code to Media Center. The XML defines the criteria that Media Center uses to locate, schedule, and record the TV programs. This documentation assumes that you are already familiar with XML in general, and XML schemas in particular. For more information, see XML Developer Center on the MSDN Web site.

This click-to-record documentation includes the following sections.

Section Description
About Click-To-Record Describes how to use the click-to-record XML schema to create documents specifying TV programs for Media Center to record.
Click-To-Record Reference Provides reference information for the elements of the click-to-record XML schema, and for the API elements that applications use to submit recording requests to Media Center.
