System.Shell object

[The Windows Gadget Platform/Sidebar is available for use in the operating systems specified in the Requirements section. It may be altered or unavailable in subsequent versions. ]

Defines the properties and methods used to expose Windows Shell characteristics.

Displays a file picker dialog box and retrieves a System.Shell.Item object that represents the selected file.

chooseFolder

Displays a folder picker dialog box and retrieves a System.Shell.Item object that represents the selected folder.

drive

Retrieves a System.Shell.Drive object that represents the specified drive.

execute

Launches an application.

itemFromFileDrop

Retrieves an System.Shell.Item from the Items collection that represents the object(s) dropped on a gadget during a drag-and-drop operation (copying or moving).

itemFromPath

Retrieves a System.Shell.Item that represents an object at the specified UNC path.

knownFolder

Returns an instance of a System.Shell.Folder based on a "well-known folder" name as defined within the user profile (for example, Documents or ProgramFiles).

knownFolderPath

Retrieves a Known Folder UNC path.

refreshDesktop

Refreshes the desktop after adding or removing files.

saveFileDialog

Displays a standard Windows File Save dialog box.
