Issues with RPC/Encoded Messages

This topic is specific to a legacy technology. XML Web services and XML Web service clients should now be created using Windows Communication Foundation .

Some issues may arise with services that use RPC/Encoded messages.

  1. The use of <simpleContent> extensions of <complexType> and <simpleType> restrictions are not supported.

  2. Using encoding from SOAP 1.0 Section 5 is not compatible with WS-I Basic Profile 1.1.

  3. Even when not BP-compliant, it is difficult to have any degree of interoperation with RPC/Encoded services.
