How to: Associate Check-in Notes with Changesets

During the check in process, you can associate check-in notes with a changeset as demonstrated in the following procedure. These notes are viewable in the History window and can be useful when you need to identify and retrieve a previous file in a changeset.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must have either the Check in or the Check out permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To associate check-in notes with a changeset

  1. From either the Pending Changes Window or Check In window, click the Check-in Notes channel (on the left). For more information, see Using the Check In and Pending Changes Windows.

  2. In the Code Reviewer, Security Reviewer, and Performance Reviewer text boxes, type applicable explanations to be associated with the changeset during the check-in.

    Note

Depending on how the team project is configured, some or all of these check-in note fields may require you to make entries prior to finalizing the check-in. Additionally, the team project may be configured with additional check-in notes; the notes mentioned above are the default notes applicable to team projects. For more information, see Working with Check-in Policies and Notes.

  3. Click Check In, or complete the steps discussed in How to: Check In Pending Changes.
