Before you can configure SQL Mail, you must have a working mail profile configured on the computer. Use the Mail application in Windows Control Panel to create a mail profile. Use this tab to view or specify the following options.
Specify a valid MAPI profile name that has been configured and tested for the Microsoft SQL Server service startup account. SQL Mail only supports extended MAPI.

Start and stop a MAPI session on an instance of SQL Server using the specified profile

This feature will be removed in a future version of SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work. To send mail from SQL Server, use Database Mail.
