How to: Add Proxy Endpoints to Application Systems

In System Designer, you can selectively expose applications or other systems within a system definition by exposing their endpoints. You can expose their endpoints by adding proxy endpoints to the system definition. For more information, see Exposure of Members in Application Systems.

Note

To add a proxy endpoint, the system definition must contain at least one member with an endpoint. For more information, see How to: Design Application Systems on System Diagrams.

To add a proxy endpoint to a system definition

  1. On the diagram, select an application or system endpoint that you want to expose as a proxy endpoint.

  2. On the Diagram menu, choose Add Proxy Endpoint.

A proxy endpoint appears on the edge of the system definition shape. A delegation line appears, indicating the direction of delegation. At deployment time, the proxy endpoint resolves to an application endpoint.

    Tip

You can also right-click an endpoint and choose Add Proxy Endpoint. You can also drag the Connection tool from an endpoint on a system member to the edge of the containing system shape. To learn about using the Connection tool, see How to: Connect Applications and Systems on System Diagrams.

When you include uses of the system definition in other system definitions, you can connect those uses through their proxy endpoints. For more information, see Communication within Application Systems.
