How to: Define the Relationship Type of an Attribute Relationship

You create an attribute relationship for an attribute in a hierarchy by using the Dimension Structure tab in Dimension Designer, which can be accessed from Business Intelligence Development Studio.

When you add an attribute relationship to an attribute, your changes are not available to users until you process the dimension. For more information, see Processing in Analysis Services.

  1. Open the dimension that you want to work with in Business Intelligence Development Studio.

The Dimension Structure tab opens by default.

  2. In Hierarchies and Levels, expand the hierarchy that contains the attribute that you want to work with.

  3. From Attributes, drag the attribute for which you want to define a relationship and drop it on the <new attribute relationship> line under the appropriate level in the hierarchy.
