If you're reading this, then you have my sympathies. You will eventually want to download some of the samples to learn about MS-SQL, and that will require you to navigate ‘Codeplex’. While it may have virtues that put a smile on ‘hackers’ faces – it’s exceptionally poor for finding tutorials and samples. How a multi-billion dollar enterprise let’s the twenty-something’s run amuck is probably a topic for another place and time.
Given that you don’t want to master Codeplex, but merely want to find the materials so you can increase your computer skills I have this to offer: (1) Ignore the SQL Server 2008 logo. It will give you the false impression that the page you’re looking at is tailored to 2008, but it never goes away. (2) There is not a 2005 navigation tree, and if you follow a link off a 2005 page – you will return to the 2008 navigation scheme. (3) After stumbling around and finding the 2008 lesson – burrow through the “Releases” to find the 2005 version materials.
If you’re a hobbyist trying to improve your computer skills – consider getting the learning materials from some other place. If you’re looking to add to existing computer skills, I’d suggest you consider planning on spending a couple of hours learning Codeplex.
[Tai Yee -- MSFT] thanks for providing feedback on the Codeplex experience. I have passed it on to the right people for improvements in future design.
