Brightness Control Interface V. 2 (Adaptive and Smooth Brightness Control)

The Brightness Control Interface Version 2 lets a display miniport driver reduce power to the display backlight and still smoothly adapt to changes in ambient light and user requests to change brightness. Starting with Windows 8, if the system includes an ambient light sensor, the driver must support the Brightness Control Interface V. 2.

This section contains reference pages for these functions for the V. 2 interface, which can be implemented by Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.2 and later display miniport drivers:

DxgkDdiGetBacklightReduction
DxgkDdiGetBrightnessCaps
DxgkDdiSetBacklightOptimization
DxgkDdiSetBrightnessState

The V. 2 functions supplement the functions in the original Brightness Control Interface, which are still available for getting and setting brightness levels of the display panel.

These structures and enumerations are used with the V. 2 functions:

DXGK_BRIGHTNESS_INTERFACE_2
DXGK_BACKLIGHT_INFO
DXGK_BACKLIGHT_OPTIMIZATION_LEVEL
DXGK_BRIGHTNESS_CAPS
DXGK_BRIGHTNESS_STATE

For more information about supporting this interface, see Windows 8 brightness control for integrated displays.
