Configuration Overview for BizTalk Server 2013 and 2013 R2

[Unless specifically noted, the content in this topic applies to BizTalk Server 2013 and 2013 R2.]

When you configure BizTalk Server, you can use the Basic Configuration option or the Custom Configuration option. Consider the following:

  • If your configuration uses domain groups, use the Custom Configuration option.

  • If your configuration uses custom group names instead of the default group names, use the Custom Configuration option.

  • If your configuration uses custom database names instead of the default database names, use the Custom Configuration option.

  • Basic Configuration is faster because it automatically creates the local groups and databases using the default names.

  • If BizTalk Server and SQL Server are on separate computers, domain groups are required. As a result, use the Custom Configuration.

This section lists the steps to configure BizTalk Server, including additional configuration-related topics.

CautionCaution
If your BizTalk Server environment uses SQL Server 2012/SQL Server 2014 and you use BAM Alerts, you must have already configured SQL Server Database Mail feature. To configure the Database Mail feature, see Configure Database Mail.
