Purpose
The Windows Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview Guide for Developers provides an early look at the developer features coming to the next version of Windows Internet Explorer, as well as the latest HTML5, JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheets, Level 3 (CSS3) features available to developers of Metro style apps using JavaScript for Windows 8 Consumer Preview. By using the documentation and samples in this guide, developers and designers can prepare to use these new features.
Important The contents of this guide apply solely to Internet Explorer 10, as well as to Metro style apps using JavaScript for Windows 8. This pre-release version of Internet Explorer 10 is only available on Windows 8. You can download Windows 8 from the Internet Explorer Feedback Program at Microsoft Connect or from the Windows Developer Center.
Internet Explorer 10 is not currently available for Windows 7. The most recent release for Windows 7 was Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview Build 2, on June 29, 2011. Therefore, you will notice that the newer features mentioned in this guide are not yet available in the most recent version of IE10 Platform Preview for Windows 7. When it's released, Internet Explorer 10 will be available for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 8 Beta.
