Updating the Windows Azure SDK 1.5 to Windows Azure SDK for .NET does not Update mswacdmi.dll Properly

Updated: November 11, 2011

Applies to: Windows Azure SDK for .NET - November 2011

Symptom: The mswacdmi.dll is not added to the GAC correctly during the upgrade to Windows Azure SDK for .NET. This can be verified by running the command:

gacutil /l | findstr /spin "mswacdmi"

Cause: The Windows Installer RemoveExistingProducts action failed during the upgrade as described in the knowledge base article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905238.

Resolution: Reinstall the compute emulator.

  1. Open the Control Panel.

  2. Click Programs and Features.

  3. Right click Windows Azure Emulators – November 2011.

  4. Click Change.

  5. Follow the steps in the wizard to reinstall the compute emulator.
