Application Artwork

April 17, 2012

Application artwork represents your application on Windows Phone devices and in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Application artwork should capture the user’s attention and the essence of your application. For art guidelines related to marketing your application in the Windows Phone Marketplace, see Best Practices for Application Marketing.

Images that represent your installed application on a user’s phone include the Tile on the Start screen (apps and games), the icon in the installed app list (apps only), and the icon in the Games Hub (games only). These files exist in your Windows Phone application project. When you submit your application for certification, these files are part of your XAP file. For more information, see the Application Submission Requirements.

Images that represent your application in the Windows Phone Marketplace include application Tile artwork, background art, and application screenshots. When you submit your application for certification, you provide the artwork that represents your application in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

This topic contains the following sections.

Customers see the application Tiles on the Start screen (apps and games), in the installed app list (apps only), and in the Games Hub (games only). For guidelines related to Tiles, see “App tiles” in Best Practices for Application Marketing and Tiles Overview for Windows Phone.

Note Note:

The artwork you use for your application icons and Tiles can have transparent parts. In the app list and on the Start screen, transparent parts are changed to match the theme color selected by the user. In the Games Hub, the transparent parts are the Games Hub color.
