Speech Technologies

This section of the MSDN Library provides resources to help you get started developing solutions that take advantage of Microsoft speech technologies.

Documentation

Whether you are creating applications for Windows, Lync 2010, Windows Mobile, or the cloud, Microsoft has the right speech technology to add the power of speech to almost any user interface. Learn more about implementing Microsoft speech technologies by following the links below, or visit http://www.microsoft.com/speech.

  • For Windows and Windows Server 2008. Add speech to your Windows applications using managed-code and native-code APIs to manage the speech engines that are included in Windows and Windows Server 2008.

  • Speech Platforms. Incorporate speech into applications that leverage Microsoft's redistributable Runtime and Runtime Languages (engines for speech recognition and text-to-speech).

  • Embedded. Speech is an effective and natural way for people to interact with devices.

  • Services. Develop speech-enabled applications that leverage real-time voice services in the cloud and free yourself from building, maintaining, and upgrading a voice services infrastructure.

Microsoft.Speech viseme event
System.Speech fires viseme events that allow you to sync a mouth to the phoneme being voiced, Microsoft.Speech does not. When developing for the Kinect only Microsoft.Speech is supported. Hopefully some day soon the development team will add viseme events and phoneme events to Microsoft.Speech.
