File System Editor

Adds project outputs and other files to a deployment project, to specify the locations where files will be installed on a target computer, and to create shortcuts on a target computer.

To access the File System Editor, on the View menu, point to Editor, and then click File System when a deployment project is selected in Solution Explorer.

The File System Editor is divided into two parts: a navigation pane on the left and a detail pane on the right. The navigation pane contains a hierarchical list of folders that represent the file system on a target computer. The folder names correspond to standard Windows folders; for example, the Application Folder corresponds to a folder beneath the Program Files folder where the application will be installed.

When a folder is selected in the navigation pane, any files and shortcuts that will be installed in that folder are displayed in the detail pane.

NoteNote:

When the top-level File System on Target Machine node is selected, the detail pane contains a list of folders.

Name column

Contains a list of file names for the selected folder. Clicking on the header for the Name column will arrange the list in alphabetical order by file name.

Type column

Contains a list of file types for each file. Clicking on the header for the Type column will arrange the list in alphabetical order by file type.
