How to: Create a Cache (Windows Azure Shared Caching)
This topic describes how to create a new Windows Azure cache. For Windows Azure, all caching management tasks are done in the Windows Azure Management Portal. These steps are specific to Shared Caching.
Note |
|---|
| The latest Windows Azure (Preview) Management Portal does not support the cache creation or management for Shared Caching. You must switch back to the previous portal. |
To create a new cache
-
Navigate to the Management Portal.
-
Log on to the Web site using a Windows Live ID. If you do not have a Windows Live ID, click Sign up now to create one.
-
After you are signed in with your Live ID, you are redirected to the Management Portal page. On the lower-left-hand side of this page, click Service Bus, Access Control, & Caching.
-
In the left pane, expand Services, and then click Cache.
-
Click the New Namespace button on the toolbar.
-
In the Create a new Service Namespace dialog, verify that the Cache checkbox is selected under Available Services.
-
Type a proposed namespace in the Choose a Service Namespace text box, and then click the Check Availability button.
Tip Caching namespaces must be between 5 and 44 characters in length. The name must start with a letter and can only contain letters and numbers. -
If the message “Available” appears under the text box, then the namespace name is available, and you can continue.
-
Select a target region in the Country/Region list.
-
Select your target subscription from the Choose a Subscription list.
-
Select a cache size in the Cache Size list.
Important For more information about determining the right cache size, see Managing Caches (Windows Azure Shared Caching), Understanding Quotas for Windows Azure Shared Caching, and the white paper Windows Azure Caching Capacity Planning Guide. -
Click the Create Namespace button to create the namespace and associated cache.
-
In the details window, the Status shows as Active when the cache is ready to use.
Note The cache can have a status of Activating for 5-15 minutes before it changes to Active.
