Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Standards Support

This documentation provides detailed support information for the Open Document Format (ODF) and Open XML (ECMA-376 and ISO/IEC-29500) file formats implemented in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Audience

This documentation is intended for use in conjunction with publicly available standard specifications, computer language design, and implementation art. It assumes that the reader either is familiar with this material or has access to it.

The documentation provides the following levels of audience support:

  • Implementer: Information regarding the implementation by Microsoft of certain standards for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint to facilitate interoperability between those implementations and other relevant implementations of a given standard.

  • Reviewer: A resource for readers who want to evaluate or increase their understanding of how Microsoft is approaching its implementation of these standards in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft PowerPoint.
