Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Readers group or your View work items in this node permission must be set to Allow. To save a query as a team query, you must be a member of the Project Administrators group or you must have the required permissions set. For more information, see Organize and Set Permissions on Work Item Queries (Team Explorer Everywhere) and the following page on the Microsoft Web site: Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To create and save a work item query

  1. In Team Explorer, right-click the Work Items folder, and then click New Query.

    A new query opens.

  2. Create or modify the query criteria.

For more information, see Specify Query Criteria and Finding Bugs, Tasks, and Other Work Items (Team Explorer Everywhere).

  3. On the toolbar, click Save, and type the name that you want for your query.

  4. Under Select the query type and save location, perform one of the following sets of steps:

    • To save your query under the Work Items node, click Server. In Query folder, click Browse to specify the team project and folder or subfolder where you want to save your query.

If only you will use the query, save your query in My Queries or a folder under this node.

If other team members will use the query, save your query in Team Queries or a folder under this node.

For more information, see Organize and Set Permissions on Work Item Queries (Team Explorer Everywhere).

    • To save your query to a file that you can send in e-mail, click File, and then specify the folder and file name where you want to save the file (or click Browse). Team Explorer Everywhere saves the query with the .wiq file name extension.

For more information, see Organize and Set Permissions on Work Item Queries (Team Explorer Everywhere).

  5. Click OK.

To copy a work item query

  1. Right-click the query, and then click Edit Query.

  2. On the File menu, click Save As.

  3. In the Save Query As dialog box, specify the target name and save location, and then click OK.

Although you can perform a copy and paste operation in other Team Foundation Server clients, those operations are not supported in this release of the Team Foundation Server plug-in for Eclipse.

You can also move work item queries. For more information, see Moving a Query, a Folder, or a Subfolder.

To rename a work item query

  1. Open a team project.

  2. Expand the Work Items folder, and then click My Queries.

  3. Right-click the query that you want, and then click Rename.

  4. Type your new query name, and then click anywhere outside the box to save your changes.

  1. Open a team project.

  2. Expand the Work Items folder, and then click My Queries.

  3. Right-click the query that you want to delete, and then click Delete.

You can also press the DELETE key.
