[This documentation is for preview only, and is subject to change in later releases. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

You extract impact and data linage metadata about Integration Services and SQL Server objects by using extraction points and providers.

To create an extraction point, use the Extraction Point Creation Wizard. For more information, see Creating Extraction Points in the Extraction Point Creation Wizard

You view the impact and data lineage information by using the Dependency Designer window in SQL Server Management Studio. For more information, see How to: View Object Impact and Data Lineage.

You can access the metadata stored in the DependencyCatalog database by using views. For more information, see Impact Analysis and Data Lineage Views (Transact-SQL)

To run an extraction

  1. In SQL Server Management Studio, connect to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine that includes Dependency Services. For more information, see Dependency Services.

  2. In Object Explorer, expand the Dependency Services node, and then expand the Extraction Points node.

  3. Expand a provider node, such as SQL Server or Integration Services, right-click an existing extraction point, and then click Sync Now.
