Working with Blobs and Streamed Data

HealthVault

To facilitate the exchange and storage of multiple large data items such as files and images, the HealthVault base thing type supports entities known as streamed blobs. Streamed blobs (or simply blobs) are stored in HealthVault independently and associated with thing instances. A thing instance may have more than one blob associated with it. Prior to the introduction of streamed blobs, the base thing type allowed for unstructured data to be associated with an item in HealthVault, but only one such "inline blob" could be associated with an item and there was a restrictive limit on the size.

The HealthVault and Medical Imaging Whitepaper describes streamed blobs and the HealthVault streaming interface in more detail.
