The following types of application are the best fit for a server appliance that is based on Server Core, because the limitations of Server Core can be less relevant for these applications:
- Application that runs as a service in Windows
- Web-server application
- Web service
- Extension to a server role that is already supported on Server Core (for example, a DNS server)
- DCOM server application
- Management agent
- Command-line tool
