Application Types

This topic describes each application type that Windows Live Messenger Connect supports, and it shows how usage scenarios map to the integration choices that are available for each type. Use the tables to choose the appropriate application type when you create a new application on the Windows Live application management site (https://manage.dev.live.com).

The web application type supports websites that you develop by using Microsoft ASP.NET in conjunction with the Messenger Connect JavaScript library. The web application type also supports websites that you develop by using technologies such as PHP in conjunction with the JavaScript library and the Messenger Connect Representational State Transfer (REST) API service.
