You can configure Expression Web to use external programs when opening specific file types from within Expression Web.
List file name extensions for file types that you can associate with a program.
To associate an editor with a file extension that doesn't appear in the Extensions list Click .
To change an existing editor association Select an item from the Extensions list, and then click .
To delete an existing association Select an item from the Extensions list, and then click .
List the names of programs associated with the selected file name extension and file type. Expression Web uses these settings to determine which program to search for and open when you open a file of the selected type from within Expression Web. The first program in the list is the first program that Expression Web searches for when opening a file. If that program cannot be found, Expression Web searches for the next program, and so on. By changing the order of programs in the list, you can specify the order in which you want Expression Web to search. These settings apply only to Expression Web. They do not change your Microsoft Windows settings.
To associate a program that doesn't appear in the Editors list with the selected file extension Click .
To delete an associated editor Select an item from the Editors list, and then click .
Set the selected program as the default program for opening files of the selected type from within Expression Web.
Move the selected program up in the Editors list.
Move the selected program down in the Editors list.
Enter the maximum number of days, since a file was last changed, that you want Expression Web to use when identifying recent files in a Files report.
"Older" files are more than n days old
Enter the minimum number of days, since a file was last changed, that you want Expression Web to use when identifying older files in a File report.
"Slow pages" take at least n seconds to download
Enter the maximum number of seconds you want for downloading and opening a page with the specified connection speed. Pages that require more time to download appear in the Problems report named Slow Pages.
Assume connection speed of n Kbps
Specify the Internet connection speed Expression Web uses when calculating the time required for site visitors to download and open a page.

Extensions to transfer as ASCII
List file name extensions for the types of files you want to encode in American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) format when transferring files to and from local and remote site locations by using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or opening files stored on a server that supports FTP.
Specify file name extensions for a file type you want to encode in ASCII format when transferring or opening files of that type.
Add the file name extension in the New Extension box to the list of file name extensions.
Delete the selected file name extension from the list.
Restore file name extensions that were deleted from the list and deletes those that were added after you installed Expression Web on your computer.
