Search Engine Optimization

Expression Studio 4.0

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to a collection of techniques to improve your site's ranking in search engines, such as Bing, Yahoo!, and Google. Microsoft Expression Web 4 includes tools that help you improve the search-engine ranking of your site.

SEO Principles

A search engine provides a list of pages, each ranked according to its relevance to the user's search query. Search engines typically use a web crawler (an automated program or task that browses the World Wide Web) to discover and index pages. An important task for web developers is to make sure that search engine crawlers can find and index information in a page so that a search query will guide users to the page.

Unlike Search Engine Marketing (SEM), in which a site owner pays for site promotion on a search engine, SEO improves the ranking of a site based on the rules that search engines use to rank pages (a process that is often called "organic search"). Pages that have been optimized for search engines follow coding practices that provide relevant information to search engines quickly.

SEO Checker

The SEO Checker feature of Expression Web helps you understand and apply search engine ranking best practices to get the highest possible search engine ranking.

You can display an SEO report, choose SEO options, filter the results in the SEO report, and step forward and back through the list of results in the SEO report to see more detail for individual list items.
