Set File Sources

Expression Studio 4.0

You can set up file-based sources to use in your live broadcast. You can use audio or video sources, in any file format that Microsoft Expression Encoder can import.

For more information about acceptable file formats, see Supported file formats.

To set file-based sources

  1. Make sure that the File Sources tab is visible.

  2. At the bottom of the panel, click Add file source Add a source..

  3. Browse to the file that you want to use, and then click Open.

  4. To add more files, repeat steps 2 and 3.

  5. Click the source for which you want to set options.

  6. On the Play then menu, to designate the action that occurs when the selected file finishes playing, do one of the following:

    • Click Hold if you want the source to freeze at the final frame.

    • Click Jump To to begin playing another source, and then select the source to play in the following list. You can choose only file sources that you have already imported.

    • Click Loop to have the source perform a looping playback or, if your source is a still image, to display continuously.

    Your choice appears in the image preview window.

  7. On the Resize Mode menu, choose how you want to display video whose source dimensions do not match the output dimensions. Choose Letterbox to maintain the aspect ratio and add black bars to the sides of the video, as appropriate. Choose Stretch to fit force the video to fit the output frame size.

  8. If you chose a still image as a file source, you will see the Duration box. Type the length of time that you want the image to be displayed. If you do not type a duration, the image will be displayed for one second.

To change the view of the sources

  • Click either Thumbnail View Thumbnail view button. or Details View Details View button. to display your source previews in the respective view.

To cue a file source

  • Click Cue in the source listing that you want to cue. The button will turn green to indicate that the source is cued.

To remove a source

  • Click Click to close the source file. in the source window of the source that you want to remove.

To clear the source list

  • In the Device options menu Ff723882.c043ff11-e91a-4d07-bccb-0d6f50e7d3cb(en-us,Expression.40).png, click Reset.
