Microsoft SQL Server Data Portability Documents

SQL Server 2008 R2

The SQL Server Data Portability documents explain various mechanisms by which user-created data in SQL Server can be extracted for use in other software products. These mechanisms include import/export functionality, documented APIs, industry standard formats, or documented data structures/file formats.

These documents are intended for use in conjunction with other Open Specifications documents, SQL Server Books Online content (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb545450.aspx), and publicly available standard specifications. They assume that the reader either is familiar with this material or has access to it. The SQL Server Data Portability documents provide the following levels of audience support:

  • Implementer: Information explaining various mechanisms by which user-created data in SQL Server can be extracted for use in other software products to facilitate interoperability.

  • Reviewer: A resource for readers who want to evaluate or get greater understanding of how Microsoft is approaching its implementation of data portability in Microsoft SQL Server.
