Viewing the State of a Cloud Service using Server Explorer

You can monitor the state of your cloud services and get additional data, such as IntelliTrace logs and diagnostics data, from Server Explorer in Visual Studio. In the current release of Azure Tools, Server Explorer is automatically populated with your Azure resources, so you don't need to explicitly add or remove resources, such as storage accounts, individually as in previous versions of the tools. You can also filter the data in Server Explorer to customize the view. See How to: Filter Azure Resources in Server Explorer.
You can also manage storage accounts, service bus resources, and virtual machines from Server Explorer. To open Server Explorer in Visual Studio, on the menu bar, choose View, Server Explorer.
Expand the Azure node, and then expand the Cloud Services node.
The Cloud Services node contains a node for each cloud service that matches the current filtered view (if any). If your cloud service doesn't appear, review any filters.
Expand the node for the cloud service that interests you.
The node for each cloud service contains nodes for production and staging deployments. These deployment nodes show glyphs that indicate whether the deployment is running normally, stopped, or in an error state.
Expand the node for the deployment environment that interests you.
The node for each deployment environment contains a node for the each role in the cloud service, and each role node contains a node for each instance in the role.
You can change diagnostics settings and view diagnostic data by opening the shortcut menu for a role node or an instance node. See Configuring Diagnostics for Azure Cloud Services. You can also connect to the virtual machine for an instance by opening its shortcut menu and using Remote Desktop.

If you enabled IntelliTrace for your cloud service during deployment, you can download the IntelliTrace logs for a role instance from the Cloud Services nodes in Server Explorer. Open the shortcut menu for the instance name, and then choose View IntelliTrace Logs. See Debugging a Published Cloud Service with IntelliTrace and Visual Studio.
|The IntelliTrace logs might contain exceptions that the framework generates and subsequently handles. Internal framework code generates these exceptions as a normal part of starting up a role, so you may safely ignore them.|
