Accelerators for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

Microsoft Dynamics CRM accelerators are a range of add-on solutions developed for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 customers and partners. Each accelerator is available at no cost and showcases how the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 platform can be configured and extended to broaden marketing, sales, and service capabilities.

Each download package is a self-extracting exe or ZIP file containing a setup routine and all the necessary installation bits, documentation, and source code.

Support for Accelerators

Each accelerator is built following SDK guidelines. Each accelerator is entitled to limited support from Microsoft that covers Microsoft Dynamics CRM customizations, workflows, reports and calls to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM API from accelerator code. All accelerators are supplied with full source code that you can modify to meet specific customer requirements. Any existing source code that is modified or new source code that is added by customers which does not call the Microsoft Dynamics CRM API or does not adhere to Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK guidelines will not be supported by Microsoft. The documentation in each accelerator package provides information about the environments in which the accelerator has been tested (such as on-premises or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online) and contains relevant deployment information.

Each accelerator is described in the following sections.

Notifications

Allows users to subscribe to RSS feeds for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM business events that are significant to them. For example, if a salesperson wants a feed of the new leads and opportunities assigned to him or a customer service representative wants a feed of the new service cases assigned to her, they can set up the subscription from Microsoft Dynamics CRM. After users have subscribed to the events, they can manage and consume these feeds using the feed viewer of their choice.

Event Management

Gives organizations the ability to manage the planning, execution, tracking and reporting requirements for events. The event management accelerator focuses on three areas of event management, namely:

Event Planning - logistics around an event such as:

  • Booking the venue
  • Presenters
  • Catering
  • Presentation content preparation

Event Attendance - all aspects around managing the attendees such as:

  • Inviting the target audience
  • Managing registrations
  • Tracking all people who actually attended the event

Event Review –measuring the effectiveness of the event, such as:

  • Reporting on attendance
  • Reporting on the revenue impact of the event

A core component of the event management accelerator is the Web registration portal that customers and partners can deploy to allow Web registration for their events and track these registrations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The solution also consists of a plug-in to manage registration counts and waitlists.

Extended Sales Forecasting

Provides extended sales goal management capabilities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. Salespeople can easily review their individual sales pipeline and classify opportunities as committed, excluded, or upside. Sales managers can monitor and track sales targets, budgets and performance against these forecasts for specific time periods (such as months and quarters). Included are specialized reports that summarize sales performance for the organization or for individual salespeople.

eService

Provides customer self-service capabilities, through a Web portal, as a configurable out-of-the-box offering. The portal connects directly to the deployment of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 and provides the following functionality:

  • Web portal membership management
  • Customer profile management: edit my contact profile including name, address, contact details, and so on
  • Create, update, and close service cases
  • Search the Knowledge Base
  • Schedule services
  • Upload and download documents

Analytics

Provides a business intelligence feature pack for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. It includes Dashboards, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and a suite of new reports.

Enterprise Search

Allows Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 customers to view and search for Microsoft Dynamics CRM data directly from SharePoint portals. By combining these two technologies, users from different areas of the business are able to:

  • View and edit Microsoft Dynamics CRM data such as accounts, contacts, opportunities, sales orders, invoices, service cases and any custom entity data through MOSS.
  • Launch a MOSS search that can return SharePoint content combined with Microsoft Dynamics CRM data.

Business Productivity Newsfeed

Turns Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 into the hub of business activity, letting users keep up to date on events happening across the organization. The Business Productivity Newsfeed accelerator presents Microsoft Dynamics CRM data to users in a way that is appealing and interactive.

Business Productivity Workflow Tools

Provides additional workflow step actions for customers to configure their workflow processes. Each custom action provides additional capabilities around string handling, mathematical functions, and HTML hyperlink creation. After this accelerator is installed, Microsoft Dynamics CRM workflow designers have more flexibility in terms of the processes they can manage through workflows.

Business Data Auditing

Provides basic audit capabilities for organizations using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. The accelerator takes a snapshot of a record whenever the relevant event occurs within the system such as Create, Update, Assign, and Delete. Using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 workflow engine, auditing can be configured for any entity and any trigger event.

Social Networking

Allows business professionals to monitor and analyze customers' conversations on social networking sites, and, as a result, provides real-time status updates about their products and services. This first release of the accelerator delivers integration with Twitter; other networks will be introduced in future releases.

Portal Integration

Connects Microsoft Dynamics CRM to an organization's Web experience. This is the base framework upon which you can then deploy eService, Event Management, or Partner Relationship Management (PRM). This accelerator can connect to Microsoft Dynamics CRM on-premises, Online and internet facing deployment deployments.

The Portal Integration accelerator also delivers content management with in-page editing that provides administrators with the ability to update content and modify the user interface directly from the portal interface.

Customers and partners can choose whether to deploy these portal accelerators on their own hardware or in the cloud through Windows Azure™. Accelerators simplify connection to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web services to enable a variety of portal authentication mechanisms including Windows Live ID.

This accelerator uses the Advanced Developer Extensions for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

Partner Relationship Management (PRM)

Allows businesses to use Microsoft Dynamics CRM to distribute sales leads and centrally manage sales opportunities across channel partners. It provides pre-built extensions to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM sales force automation functionality, including new data entities, workflow, and reports. Using the PRM accelerator, companies can jointly manage sales processes with their channel partners through a centralized Web portal, as well as extend this integration to automate additional business processes.

Note that in order to use the Partner Portal you are required to install the Portal Integration accelerator first.
