New for Hypervisor

The Windows Driver Kit (WDK) that is released with Windows 7 provides information about features that are new for hypervisor version 2.

Hypervisor is a technology that was initially supported in Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V. Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V supports version 2.0 and earlier versions of the hypervisor.

The following features are new for hypervisor version 2:

  • Extended fast hypercall interface

  • Partition CPU compatibility properties, compatibility mode, and CPU vendor property. For more information about these features, see Partition Properties.

  • Partition XSAVE features. For more information about partition XSAVE features, see Partition Properties.

  • Virtual guest idle state. For more information about virtual guest idle state, see Virtual Processor Idle Sleep States.

  • Partition reference time enlightenment

  • Support for core parking

  • SMI virtual interrupt type

  • HvPortPropertyPreferredTargetVp port property. For more information about this property, see HV_PORT_PROPERTY_CODE.

  • System properties

  • HV profiling

  • Invoke hypervisor debugger
