Saving the WDF Verifier Settings

When you click OK or Apply, the WDF Verifier tool updates the registry settings for the WDF verifiers. However, when you make changes to the registry settings, keep in mind the following:

  • When you make changes on the Tool Preferences page (and the UMDF automatic launch setting on the UMDF page), those changes occur immediately. You do not need to click the OK or Apply buttons. The Cancel button has no affect on these settings.

  • The KMDF verifier settings are determined at the time that a driver is loaded. If the WDF Verifier shows that a driver whose settings you changed is loaded, you must disable and re-enable all devices that use that driver, or else restart the computer, to have the changes take effect.

  • The KMDF loader DbgPrint flag is read at the time the loader loads. You must disable all devices with KMDF drivers to unload the KMDF loader. Otherwise, you must restart the computer. WDF Verifier can handle this for you, with the exception of KMDF class filters and legacy (Windows NT 4.0 style) drivers.

  • When you make changes to the UMDF verifier settings, these changes affect subsequently loaded devices. If your device is already running, you must disable and re-enable it. You can force WDF Verifier to disable and re-enable the device by changing the UMDF trace level or by selecting the Send Log Output to Kernel Debugger option, when you set your tool preferences to restart all processes to accommodate that change.
