2.1.229 Part 1 Section 17.7.4.1, aliases (Alternate Style Names)

For additional notes that apply to this portion of the standard, please see the notes for numStyleLink, §17.9.22(a) .

a. The standard states that any series of alternate style names is valid.

Word does not roundtrip multiple instances of an identical style name (including both duplication within this element and duplication with the primary style name).

b. The standard states that any number of consecutive comma characters can be used to delimit consecutive style names.

Word discards all aliases after the presence of multiple consecutive comma characters.

c. The standard does not limit the length of the value of the val attribute.

Word restricts the value of this attribute to be at most 253 characters, removing all aliases whose inclusion would exceed that length.
