2.1.413 Part 1 Section 17.15.1.69, revisionView (Visibility of Annotation Types)

a. The standard states that the markup attribute specifies whether the application shall visually indicate any additional non-printing area used to display annotations.

Word uses this attribute to specify whether any annotations should be displayed when the document is opened. If this attribute is set to false, then no annotations are displayed, regardless of the state of the other attributes.
