[MS-JPEG]: Internet Explorer ISO 10918-1 Image Compression and Encoding Standards Support
Windows® Internet Explorer® 7 and Internet Explorer 8 support the ISO 10918-1:1994 specification, Image compression and encoding of continuous-tone still images [ISO-10918-1], with no variations or extensions. [ISO-10918-1] is used in images commonly referred to as "JPEG" files.
Note Internet Explorer only supports image decoding. Portions of the standard related to image encoding are out of scope.
