This topic assumes that you are using a physical computer that is connected to a network. Installing PowerPivot software on a virtual machine is beyond the scope of this topic. For instructions on how to deploy SharePoint on a virtual machine, see Deploy single server in isolated Hyper-V environment. |
Restrictions on using a single system for client and server operations
Network connectivity is required for all server operations. The system must have constant access to a domain controller to confirm user identity for authenticated requests.
All service accounts must be Windows domain user accounts in the same domain or in domains that have two-way trust.
Add Windows features
Start with a Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) computer. This is required for installing server products.
In Server Manager, add the following features:
.NET Framework 3.5.1 features.
Desktop Experience (a reboot is required after installing this feature).
Install client software on a Windows server
Run Office 2010 Setup to install Excel 2010 (64-bit). At a minimum, you must select the following components:
Excel 2010
Office Shared Features
NoteYou do not need to select any of the items under Office Shared Features, but the parent folder must be selected. Selecting the folder adds Visual Studio Tools for Office to your installation.
Start Excel to verify it installed correctly.
Download PowerPivot for Excel (64-bit) from this . Be sure to scroll down the page to select the 64-bit version. The Download button provides the 32-bit version by default. You must explicitly select the 64-bit version further down the page to get the correct version.
Double-click PowerPivot_for_Excel_amd64.msi to install the 64-bit version of the add-in.
Start Excel to finish and verify installation. After installation is finished, you should see the PowerPivot tab on the Excel ribbon.
