The .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1 component adds the required dependencies to install the .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1. In addition, it optionally sets up a First Boot Agent (FBA) generic command to install the Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 automatically during the initial boot of the device.

Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) and Message Queuing (MSMQ) Core are included by default as dependencies when you add the .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 Setup package to a run-time image as they are required by the Windows Communication Foundation. You can choose not to include them by using the appropriate setting described in the section below.

Local Printing Support and System Restore Core are included as dependencies by default when you add the .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 Setup package to a run-time image and selecting the Include XPS Support setting described in the section below as they are required to support XPS functionality.

The following table shows the settings that are configurable for the .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1 component.

Configuration option Default setting Description

Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Install Package during FBA

Cleared

This option must be selected in order to install .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 with the First Boot Agent (FBA) automatically.

Include resources required by Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)

Checked

This option adds as dependencies the Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) and Message Queuing (MSMQ) Core components. Windows Communication Foundation requires Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) to support OleTx transactions and Message Queuing (MSMQ) Core to support reliable messaging.

  • If the checkbox Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Install Package during FBA is cleared, the .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 package and updates will not be automatically installed. The .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 package and updates will be copied to the %SystemRoot% directory of the target device, or the destination specified in the File Resource Properties dialog box in Target Designer.
  • The .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 package and updates listed in the File Resources section above can be removed from the %SystemRoot% directory after installation if free disk space optimization is required.
  • Only one version of .NET Framework can be included in your configuration.
  • Log files are stored in the %SystemRoot%\Temp folder if the package is installed automatically during FBA. If the package is installed manually, the log files are stored in the %TEMP% folder.

  1. In the component options, clear the checkbox .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Install Package during FBA.

  2. After booting into the Windows Embedded Standard operating system, manually run the related executable files located in the %SystemRoot% directory of the target device (or the destination specified in the File Resource Properties dialog box in Target Designer).

  3. The installation files must be run in the following order:

    1. dotnetfx35.exe
